The 09:15 Circle Line delivered us from Paddington to Tower Hill Station. The morning peak-hour crush was a reminder that we don't deal well with crowds nor crowded situations, especially the confines of trains!
The presentation of the design & construct phases of the Tower Bridge in 1894 highlighted the amazing engineering feats of the era. Our visit to the engine room not only offered respite from the bitterly cold wind, but also provided an opportunity to observe the mechanics required to operate the steam-powered swing bridge.
I failed to appreciate the exhibits on display at the Tate Modern. Minimalism, modernism, cubism, surrealism, in fact, a lot of 'artism' just doesn't do it for me! I expect it challenges the minds of those more appreciative of other's artistic expression. Perhaps I am just artistically mindless! An opportunity exists in this city for Tori.
St Paul's Cathedral was designed and built by Christopher Wren between 1675 and 1710. The iconic dome dominates London's skyline. It's mosaic interior, depicting the creation of the universe, is indeed stunning. The crypt, an eerie space, is dedicated to famous Londoners & heroes of the British Empire, Nelson, the Duke of Wellington & Churchill being the most famous of these. The Cathedral, while welcoming many visitors, offered tranquility from the busyness of the outside world. I appreciated the opportunity for some quiet reflection.
Tomorrow's weather forecast is somewhere at sometime it will be a warm 26 degrees. Such optimism!
