Lots of Lochs & Many Mountains

This morning I appreciated waking to a space larger than a bedroom. It was lovely not having to step over strategically placed suitcases necessary with the confines of living in one room. Breakfast was a simple affair. Much like home - get your own!

My Inverness Castle history lesson was postponed until Tuesday. Instead, I joined Phil for a tour of Scotland's northwest coast. Plans change often with Bell Tours!

The weather gods smiled on us today. It was raining when we left Inverness. It was raining when we returned. However, while today's maximum reached just 9*C, we have enjoyed a rain free day. Calm conditions allowed for some great photos of reflective scenery on the lochs.

At every bend, at every rise & fall, we once again marvelled at an ever changing landscape from lush vegetation to sparsely covered highlands, large lochs & misty mountains.

Ullapool, a picturesque village on Loch Broom, is the service centre for the Lewis-Harris Islands. Unfortunately, on our approach we could only watch as cloud descended & stole the mountain scenery we came so close to capturing. A lost in time moment. While Ullapool isn't the most northerly point in Scotland, it's as far north as we'll be travelling. That means we're heading for home!

The Gairloch Coastal route took us past lots of lochs & many mountains. The largest of these was Loch Maree and the highest mountain at 3547 feet, was Beinn Dearg.

Inverewe, 50 acres of gardens & woodlands in the care of Scotland's National Trust, was on a promontory on Loch Ewe. While it was impossible to cover the entire gardens, what we saw was a spectacular collection of plants & shrubs. A mass of colour. We were delighted to discover a variety of eucalypts in a section of the garden dedicated to Australia. A reminder of home was heartening.

While I don't recall having missed a Wimbledon final before today, I expect I shall long remember Roger Federer defeated Andy Murray 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 to win the 2012 Men's Wimbledon Championship.
