We decided to lighten our luggage ahead of our August 1 return to Australia. This morning a representative from Pack & Send, an Australian company with agencies in Britain, came to the B&B & waited while we boxed that which we were sending home. Not cheap, but a very convenient service. In this instance, door to door.
Without success we tried to source tickets to Wednesday evening's performance of Twelfth Night, which is now playing at The Royal Shakespeare Theatre. We shall try again tomorrow on the off chance pre-purchased tickets may have been returned for resale.
This morning we joined a walking tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about Stratford-Upon-Avon, the district & all things Shakespeare. A natural orator, his two-hour presentation was both interesting & very informative. Just a pity about the wet weather!
This afternoon we returned to places of interest. The Shakespeare home, the birthplace of William Shakespeare & his seven siblings, is now a dedicated museum to the life & times of the famous poet & playwright. Theatre, performed in the garden, was a nostalgic return to our school days with soliloquies from Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth, The Merchant of Venice & Othello.
Shakespeare attended the local school during the 1570's. It later became King Edward VI School & is now The Grammar School, a private boys college.
The Holy Trinity Church, dated 1210, is the resting place of William Shakespeare, his wife, Anne Hathaway, & two of their three children. The Bible (pictured) took William Shakespeare & fifty-three others seven years to translate from Latin to English. Interestingly, the 46th word of Psalms 46 is the word Shake & if one counts back 46 words from the end of Psalm 46, the 46th word is speare!
The Shakespeare experience attracts 5 million visitors to Stratford-Upon-Avon each year.
