Strandhill to Dublin

A different numbering system is followed in the accounts department. As anticipated, at our point of departure, we had a problem with our account. According to hotel records we had paid. Accordingly, we put them straight!

A wet day and flooding forecast for the Midlands made for a change of route from Strandhill to Dublin. It was a day for keeping to national & regional highways. The conditions dampened our enthusiasm for sightseeing.

Trim, terrific but terrible! Trim Castle, founded in the 12th century, is one of the largest medieval castles in Europe. It overlooks the Boyne River. It was used as a filming location for the 1995 production of Braveheart. The colourful shop fronts invited us to linger a while longer and have a coffee, but we wish we hadn't. The coffee was terrible.

1.6 mile from Navan, County Meath, we took a stone on the windscreen. Two large chips now need mending. Perhaps it is timely we are in Dublin tomorrow. We are waiting for O'Briens to return our call!

The M1 cable stayed bridge spanning the Boyne River at Drogheda impressed both the engineer & her.

Dublin was distressingly difficult. According to our GPS, Park Avenue, Ballsbridge doesn't exist. With assistance from an hotelier, two cabbies & a real estate agent we finally arrived at our accommodation. It was worth the effort. Aberdeen Lodge is a charming, old, ivy covered, early Edwardian home, now run as a boutique hotel under the Halpins Private Hotel brand.
